Houghton Lake, Day Four

Today we went out for a long boat ride. I was pretty tired by the time we left so I took a little snooze in Mommy's arms.
But soon after I was wide awake again and ready to get in the water!
I wasn't sure I ever wanted to get out! But since I was shivering Mommy figured it was probably time to call it a day. Bada and Poppy gave me a good snuggle to warm me up!
Later that night we went out for ice cream. I got to eat mint chip ice cream for the first time and made a huge mess! Mommy didn't have her camera with her so you'll just have to take our word for it! We have had such a great trip so far and have really enjoyed spending time with the whole family.

Houghton Lake, Day Three

Today was a nice relaxing day. We spent most of the day eating yummy food, playing games, taking walks, and just having a good time.
I also spent lots of time with my Abbey!

Houghton Lake, Day Two

Today was our first full day in Houghton Lake. This afternoon Anna and I tried on our new outfits from Bada and Poppy. Don't we match well?
Then Daddy and I went and played by the water.
And Bada and Poppy took me for a walk before bed.

Houghton Lake, Day One

We had a good drive to Houghton Lake. Mommy says we were stuck in traffic for about a half hour, but other than that all went well.
We were the first to arrive at the cottage, so I had plenty of time to explore. It didn't take me very long to discover Belle's cage in Bada and Poppy's room.

Off we go...

Today we are going to go to Houghton Lake to spend a few days with Daddy's family. We'll be sure to take lots of pictures and fill you in on all the fun next week!

Playtime videos

Sometimes I have work to do.
But most of the time I play!

This last video is pretty long, but it shows one of my favorite games to play with Mommy.

B2SB

Mommy says, "Tonight Lillian stayed home with our babysitters for a couple of hours while Dan and I painted faces at a Back 2 School Bash. Our church put on the event for our Kids Hope students and the families at a nearby apartment complex. The event seemed to run really smoothly - we had backpacks and supplies for the kids, dinner was provided, and there were lots of fun games. We're hoping to continue this partnership with this particular apartment complex as our church is moving into a permanent location this fall that is right next door."
"I have to include a shot of our most frequent customer - by the end of the night his face, hands, and arms were fully painted!"
"When we returned home Lillian was still awake so I got to snuggle her for a few minutes before bed!"
"P.S. Four months until Christmas!"

Spontaneous fun

This morning we decided to go out for breakfast to celebrate Daddy's last Friday at home. To make things extra festive I wore my olympic medal!
After that we spent most of the day in Hamilton getting Daddy's classroom ready for school. Here is a picture of Mommy and Daddy's hard work!
And here is a picture of Mommy's latest project at home - painting the letters on my wall.

Random shots at home

Mommy says, "Yep. Lillian was here."
"For the last few weeks Lillian has been getting pretty impatient with being in her high chair. As a little experiment I tried seating her at the table with a booster instead and she has been much happier. So, today I packed up the high chair and stored it in the closet. Lillian had to play with it first."
"We ran some errands this afternoon, including a brief visit to the toy aisle at Wal-Mart. Lillian was quite entertained!"
"After that we decided a game of Yahtzee was long overdue."

Playtime

This afternoon Mommy and I did something we've never done together - we washed the car! I had so much fun putting my hands in the bubbly water and playing with all of the foam! Mommy was a little busy, so she wasn't able to take any pictures. It looked a little something like this...
After that my friend Anna stopped by for a short visit. Now that she is crawling and cruising we have even more fun together!

Shopping

I didn't sleep the best last night but I am feeling much better than yesterday. Mommy and Daddy took me shopping tonight at Old Navy and I discovered some fun toys!

15-month checkup and a rough day

Mommy says, "Today I brought Lillian to the doctor for her 15-month check up. It started out all right; the nurse poked Lillian's toe to check her hemoglobin levels and Lillian didn't cry one bit. She just watched everything the nurse did. That was band-aid #1 for the day. Next Lillian's doctor came in and examined her. She asked some questions about Lillian's sleep habits, eating habits, and skills. She said everything looked and sounded great. Lillian is now in the 70th percentile for height (31 inches), 90th for head size, and 20th for weight (20 lbs 11 oz). The doctor was happy that Lillian had moved up from the 15th percentile for weight last time to the 20th this time."
"The bad news came after all that. The doctor said that Lillian's hemoglobin test showed that she is anemic. She went on to say that in order to verify the results and learn more about them, Lillian would have to go to the lab at the hospital to get her blood drawn. Shortly after telling me this the nurses came in to give Lillian two vaccines. Lillian was not pleased. So, after getting band-aids #2 and 3, Lillian and I headed off to Holland Hospital. I didn't know what to expect since Lillian had never gotten her blood drawn before. The draw took probably about a minute and then the nurses had to keep applying pressure (and band-aid #4) for about a minute after that. Lillian cried the whole time. Thankfully Lillian was a real trooper and stopped crying shortly after. Here is a shot of Lillian from the parking lot post-draw."
"After that we went home and, unfortunately, Lillian was not able to settle down to take a nap. Needless to say the rest of the day was not the most pleasant for Lillian. I think she was pretty sore from all of her poking and worn out from missing a nap. Meanwhile I was waiting to hear results of her blood draw and searching the internet for information about anemia. I didn't know what I would find out. The doctor didn't sound overly worried, but as a parent my mind was still wandering, thinking of the possibilities. Shortly before 6:00 P.M. the nurse from our doctor's office called with the results. She told me that Lillian has anemia caused by an iron deficiency. The treatment plan is to give Lillian iron drops each day and recheck her hemoglobin at 18 months to see if the levels have improved. I was very thankful to hear that her case seems to be quite minor. I was also grateful when my brother, a neonatalogist, reassured me that although it is very important that we give Lillian her iron drops each day, we don't need to worry much beyond that. Phew. How's that for an update? Let's hope for a more positive day tomorrow! Just so this post isn't too depressing, here's a snapshot of a more chipper Lillian on our way home from the hospital."

Hot, hot, hot

Mommy and I stayed home from church this morning. She said that I would not have been able to go to nursery since I still have a fever and she didn't think I would do very well staying in the service. We met some friends at the beach this afternoon, though, and just like yesterday, having fun helped me forget I wasn't feeling well.
I didn't want to take a nap earlier this afternoon, but I made up for it at the beach.
Daddy gave me some shade to protect me from the sun.
We had a yummy dinner (thanks for cooking, Dave!) and then went to Captain Sundae for even yummier dessert!

Birthday celebration

After feeling better the last few days I woke up this morning with another fever. But, Mommy and Daddy still took me to Grandma and Papa's house to celebrate my cousin Abby's birthday. We spent some time in the pool together. When I am busy having fun I forget that I'm not feeling the greatest!
After having so much fun in the pool I was pretty tired. I fell asleep in Daddy's lap...
...with my hand in my cereal bowl!
Happy Birthday Abby!
